Thai Kani

Dar es Salaam

Tanzania

Overview

Thai Kani brings authentic Thai and Japanese cooking to one of Dar es Salaam’s most attractive waterfront locations. Established in 2013 and located at Slipway Beach on the Msasani Peninsula, the Tanzanian-owned, family-run restaurant combines Asian cuisine with views across the Indian Ocean. Its authenticity has also been recognised through Thai Select certification from Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce.

Head Chef Tanakrit Silasom leads a menu built around traditional Thai flavours and Japanese favourites. Diners can move from Tom Yum soup, red and green curries and Pad Thai to sashimi, nigiri, maki rolls, grilled seafood and substantial seafood platters. Fresh seafood and produce sourced from local farms sit alongside specialist Asian ingredients, allowing the restaurant to retain genuine flavours while taking advantage of Tanzania’s natural produce.

The combination of strong cooking, ocean views and a lively but welcoming atmosphere gives Thai Kani considerable versatility. It can feel intimate enough for a sunset dinner yet becomes more energetic when live music and cocktails enter the equation. For Asian dining in Tanzania, it remains one of the country’s most distinctive choices.
