Rivertrees Restaurant
Arusha
Tanzania
Overview
Rivertrees offers perhaps the most tranquil setting of the ten restaurants. Located at Usa River, approximately 20 kilometres from Arusha, the restaurant forms part of Rivertrees Country Inn, a former coffee estate set within ten acres of greenery on the foothills of Mount Meru. Its location makes it particularly convenient for travellers moving between Arusha and Kilimanjaro International Airport.
The restaurant specialises in what Rivertrees describes as gourmet country cuisine, with many ingredients harvested directly from its gardens. Recipes draw inspiration from established family favourites, while wood-fired pizzas have become a signature. Tanzania’s excellent locally grown coffee naturally forms another important part of the experience.
Where Rivertrees really distinguishes itself, however, is atmosphere. Guests can dine beneath mature trees in the gardens, beside the river, inside the atmospheric old farmhouse or near the fireplace on cooler evenings. Candlelit dinners and meals beneath the stars reinforce the feeling of being immersed in the landscape.
For travellers beginning or ending a northern Tanzania safari, Rivertrees provides a wonderfully gentle transition between wilderness and civilisation — combining garden-fresh food, heritage, nature and understated hospitality in one of the Arusha region’s most appealing dining environments.
